
Lisa Coffey is from Chesterfield, Virginia and she currently resides in the Chester area. Lisa is a veteran music educator and a local trumpet performer/educator. Lisa earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education at Virginia Tech University, where she played in the university’s jazz band, concert band, and was a member of the Marching Virginians.
After earning her Bachelor’s degree, Lisa taught elementary music for Chesterfield County Public Schools for twelve years. Eight of those years were at Matoaca Elementary School where she successfully presented numerous programs, was awarded a “Partners in the Arts” grant for “Correlating Music and the SOLs”, and she was named “Teacher of the Year” in 1999.
In 2006, Lisa earned her Master’s of Education in Administration and Supervision from Virginia State University. Her major project during her graduate studies included; writing curriculums for music students, researching and writing curriculum for students with special needs in the music setting, and an internship in elementary administration best practices.
Lisa’s son was born in 2005, and she currently is a stay at home mom and a part-time employee for CCPS. She recently designed and implemented a music program for the students of Perrymont Middle that included learning guitar and keyboard. She also continues to teach private trumpet, performs trumpet at her church and weddings, and is an alto for the Chester Baptist Church Choir. Lisa is also an active community member who currently serves on Chesterfield’s Comprehensive Plan Committee. Lisa believes that “Music Truly Makes a Difference” for young people and welcomes opportunities to share her talent with the community in which she lives.
