“Vibraphonist Mike Pinto is an aggressive performer who punches his way through the music's odd metered, harmonic twists like a prize fighter.”

“For those concerned with the abundance of generic sounding technicians sprouting like weeds from American music institutions, Cerebral Flow should serve as soothing evidence of a prosperous future for jazz.”

ABOUT THE ARTISTS: ======================================>>>

About Mike Pinto:

Vibraphonist and composer Michael Pinto brings a fresh and dynamic voice to the music world. Combining virtuosic skill and an untethered sense of adventure, Michael provides both innovation and tradition to his ensembles and those of which he is a guest.

Michael grew up in Medford, New Jersey, where he began studying music in the fourth grade. He discovered his love of jazz during his sophomore year of high school, when he became obsessed with a cd of Vibraphonist Milt Jackson with the Modern Jazz Quartet. Around that time, Michael began his diligent studies to master the arts of music and jazz. Within one year, Michael was winning numerous awards at every jazz festival he attended. He chose to continue his studies with a scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston.

At Berklee, Michael earned a degree in Music Education. His training provided him with a vast amount of experience in the teaching world, including private lessons, high school teaching, and grade school teaching. Being careful not to neglect his musical skills, Michael studied jazz and vibraphone with vibraphonist Dave Samuels and traveled regularly to New York City to study with Stefon Harris and Jason Moran.

After his time at Berklee, Michael decided to pursue his jazz career in NYC, where he is surrounded by a vast number of the world’s greatest musicians. Since coming to New York, Michael has been performing as a leader and sideman in world class jazz venues such as the Village Vanguard, Birdland, Jazz At Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola, Smalls, Sweet Rhythm, Fat Cat, Chris’ Jazz Café (Philadelphia), and more.
Recently, Michael has become an active member of the Greg Osby Five, which has taken him from Perugia, Italy, to the Village Vanguard in New York City.
Michael has also performed with such musicians as Nasheet Waits, Logan Richardson, Greg Osby, Eric McPherson, Tommy Crane, Sara Serpa.

Michael Pinto and Logan Richardson with the I.E. Group

The I.E. Group is a quartet based in New York City. The group consists of Michael Pinto on Vibraphone, Logan Richardson on Alto Sax., Tommy Crane on Drums, and Christopher Tordini on Bass.

The I.E. Group is a collaboration of all its members, who share the goal of creating new music that breaks free of the labels, genres, and divides that have split the music world. The group is most heavily grounded in the tradition of jazz; however, instead of recapitulating what has come before them, the I.E. Group draws influence from every form of music that inspires them. Whether it is the rhythmic phrasing of jazz legends such as Elvin Jones, Ben Webster, Milt Jackson, or Bunky Green; the incredibly rich and beautiful harmonic devices used by classical composers such as Claude Debussy, Franz Schubert, or Francis Poulenc; or even modern rock and hip-hop; all kinds of influences shape the music that is created by the I.E. Group.

The I.E. Group and its members continually perform all around the world from Foggia, Italy, to San Francisco, California. The group’s members also record and perform with many jazz greats such as Greg Osby, Sara Serpa, Jason Moran, Joe Chambers, Stefon Harris, Carl Allen, Mulgrew Miller, Greg Tardy, Mark Turner, Nasheet Waits, George Garzone, Kevin Mahogany, Arthur Blythe, Terryon Gully, Myron Walden, Cyrus Chestnut, Javon Jackson, Eric McPherson, Bobby Watson, and James Carter.

Recently, the group has been in the studio to complete two recording projects, both of which will be released in the summer of 2008. One project includes Vocalist Sara Serpa from Lisboa, Portugal.
